All creativity is the act of bringing into being something that didn’t exist before, whether it be a drawing, a story, or a physical object.
Creativity is dancing with Hope.
It is birthed from Hope–I believe the good and the beautiful are possible,
It is a reaching toward Hope–Because I believe the good and the beautiful are possible, I will work to bring them into visible form.
It is a manifestation of Hope–Here it is, the good and the beautiful, that I imagined.
Creativity says “more is possible than what you see right now”. It brings together disparate pieces into a new kind of whole.
Creativity is a way of embodying glimmers of light. It is the result of feeling a sense of possibility, and bringing that possibility into visible form.
Creativity and play are intertwined. Play is celebration of the process of creativity. Play is allowing myself to be immersed in creativity for its own sake.
Creativity is a way of tending my heart. That which I create with words, or colour or ingredients expresses something of my essence into the world. Sometimes when what is in my heart is too big, or too complex, or too unknown to say directly, I can give it voice through something I make. This s deep self-care.
Creativity is way of saying “what I feel, what I envision, what delights me matters”. As I give attention to what matters to me, my soul is nourished.
Creativity (and play) calms my nervous system, which helps me meet the world with presence rather than reactivity. This is my gift to the world.
Creativity isn’t always easy. Sometimes it looks like just showing up for my writing practice, my qullt-in-progress. Sometimes it feels more like wrestling than play. Yet as I consent to the effort, my heart is lightened. Joy slips in beside the struggle.
Creativity connects me with my life-force. It helps me feel the energy of life itself, that finds a way to grow and bloom no matter what the odds.
Every human has a way of expressing creativity. we have become accustomed to associating creativity with particular forms of expression, such as painting, drawing or music, but creativity is not nearly that limited. Creativity is as individual as each personality, as varied as the colours in a sunrise.
Creativity cannot be forced, only cultivated. It grows from seeds much smaller than we expect, and offers an outcome we can’t predict.
As I engage in creativity in any form, it fertilizes and expands other areas of creative expression. For example, when the words I want are just out of reach, working in my garden or baking a batch of bread often helps me discover the flow I’m looking for in my writing.
How would our world be better if we made a post of honouring both our own small acts creativity, and those of others?
